Hello,
On behalf of York University Lassonde School of Engineering, YSpace and the Canada Korea Business Council, I am pleased to invite you to the Korea-Canada Transpacific Relations.
Often described as “middle powers,” Canada and Korea have built their international influence through cooperation, trust, and strong knowledge-based economies. By investing in people, sharing ideas, and creating new opportunities, both countries can spark innovation, strengthen transpacific ties, and shape smarter public policy.
Today, this kind of collaboration matters more than ever. Rising geopolitical tensions, uncertainty around democratic values, the climate crisis, growing concerns about technology and security, and the ethical questions raised by artificial intelligence are reshaping the global landscape. In this context, science diplomacy—using research and knowledge to build trust and cooperation across borders—has become an essential tool.
This panel will explore both the opportunities and the challenges ahead, including how to protect research, support the movement of talent, and understand the growing role of universities as international actors. Drawing on perspectives from science, government, industry, and international affairs, the discussion will highlight practical ways to strengthen Korea–Canada collaboration while also examining the political conditions that make such cooperation possible—or place limits on it.
